Levi’s has taken great strides to leverage this growth opportunity in India’s premium jeans market and capitalize on it. They have focused their attention on super-premium jeans priced Rs2,500 or above with fashion overtures as noted by K Venkataramani, marketing director. Red Loop and Diva, two recently introduced products are showing strong sales performances here.
1. The 501 model
Since 1850, Levi’s 501 jeans have set the standard for every other pair on the market and should be an essential piece in every man’s closet.
If the jeans have exposed rivets and a red tag, this indicates they were manufactured prior to 1984. Furthermore, look for any brand patches with the notation “XX notation.” If these patches feature a lower case “xx” at the bottom left of each patch then this indicates production before 1986 and you should continue with step 1d.
Levi’s has expanded their offering with relaxed Big & Tall jeans designed specifically for men with larger builds, offering multiple washes such as stonewashed, distressed and classic indigo blue washes to meet any customer preference.
2. The Levi’s logo
Red-woven patches sewn on denim garments above the back right pocket are often used to display company branding, imagery and product-specific information.
In 1922, Levi’s first released jeans with belt loops added. As society changed and belts became an everyday accessory instead of solely being reserved for decoration or military uniforms, retailers kept scissors on hand so customers who desired belts could remove it themselves with scissors.
λιβαισ India marketing director states that their brand specializes in premium denim wear, with plans to bring “current international fashion in jeanswear” into this sector of the Indian denim market. They have invested in flagship stores while training sales staff specifically on targeting this segment of customers.
4. The back cinch
Colored lines along the selvedge of denim fabric used to identify its manufacturer; Levi’s first patented the 501 cut in 1890 and still sells it today; Iron Heart’s 634 and 1955 cuts are inspired by vintage versions.
Fakes will often attempt to duplicate authentic jeans by adding red tags and exposed rivets, then placing an incorrect back cinch – an telltale sign that a fake pair of Levi’s jeans exist.
5. The back pocket
Levi’s has seen their jeans sales skyrocket over the past several years, prompting them to launch red loop designs targeted towards young adults. This range features two-horse back patches in red hue, printed hanger loops, and of course their signature red logo emblazoned across each piece of apparel.
In 1936, Levi Strauss introduced their trademark red tab sewn onto the right back pocket to differentiate their blue jeans brand from other manufacturers’ offerings. Additionally, their 501 model boasts two front internal pockets and one coin pocket (originally known as watch pocket). Furthermore, each rivet of copper strengthens this model of blue jeans.
Be wary of counterfeit 501s that claim to be vintage by adding red tags or exposed rivets; be wary when purchasing as this will help avoid being taken advantage of by fake sellers. Check for these telltale signs to avoid being duped!
